Hovhannes Lazaryan was the representative of the national liberation movement, state counselor in Russia, capitalist and landlord.
He has used his relations with Russian Royal Court to liberate Armenia.
He has actively participated in the process of liberation projects’ development. He has made and presented to the Russian Royal Court the “Mr. Ivan Lazarev’s Note” Project, where he has focused on the reestablishment of the Armenian statehood under the Russian Empire support.
He has largely focused on the issue of enlightenment.
Owing to his efforts schools have been opened in Tiflis, Nor Nakhijevan, Grigoriopol, he has opened the Lazaryan Seminary, Russian Maiden Seminary in Tsarskoe Selo, Armenian churches have been built in Moscow and Petersburg. He has also built metallurgic plants in Kiev and Polaznino.
He was awarded the title of Baron by Austrian Emperor Josef II in 1786 and in 1788 the title of Count. |
