Vahan Teryan was an eminent Armenian poet, lyrist and public activist.
In 1906 Teryan entered Moscow University, the Chair of Russian Language and Literature of the Faculty of History and Philology.
In 1908 his first compilation of poems "Dreams of twilight" was published and he became one of the most outstanding figures of the Armenian literature.
In October of 1913 Teryan entered the Faculty of Oriental Languages of St. Petersburg University. In 1918 he represented the Armenian party at Brest-Litovsk negotiations as an adviser.
In the end of 1919 he was sent to Middle Asia by the People's Commissariat, but his health began to worsen on the way there and he died on January 7, 1920 in Orenburg.
He was the first Eastern Armenian poet who managed to improve, making perfect, the principle of rows. His literary heritage consists of about 400 poems.
His love lyric has got a special place in the Armenian reality. The proof is his popularity.
