Paruyr Rafaeli Ghazaryan, better known as Paruyr Sevak, was an Armenian poet, cultural figure translator.
He is considered one of the greatest Armenian poets of all time.
In 1945 he graduated from YSU Faculty of Armenian Philology and in 1955- Moscow's Gorky Institute of Literature, where he delivered lectures till 1959.
In 1963-1971 Sevak was one of the senior researchers of the M. Abeghyan Institute of Armenian Literature of the Academy of Sciences. Beginning with 1966 he was the Department Secretary of the ASSR Writers Union. In 1970 he was given the academic title of Doctor of Philology.
One of his most outstanding works is the philosophic poem "The Unsilenceable Belfry", for which he was awarded state prize in 1966. Some of his compilations are "The Immortals Order", "The Man in the Palm", "Shine a Light", "Again with You", etc.
Sevak died on June 17, 1971 in an automobile accident while on a drive back to Yerevan.
