Armen Darbinyan

Rector of the Russian-Armenian (Slavonic) University

Armen Darbinyan is Armenian politician and public figure.

Darbinyan was born in Leninakan (Gyumri), Armenia, on January 23, 1965. In 1986, he received an honors degree at the Department of Economy, Moscow State University. In 1989, Darbinyan completed a post-graduate course at Moscow State University.

Darbinyan's career as a statesman started in 1994 when he was appointed First Vice-Chairman of the Central Bank of Armenia. In 1997 Darbinyan was appointed RA Minister of Finance. On April 10, 1998, he was appointed RA Prime Minister.

Since 2001, Armen Darbinyan has been Rector of Russian-Armenian (Slavonic) University.

In November 2005 The World Economic Forum (WEF) has recognized Darbinyan, then already an ex-premier, as Young World Leader. The jury was headed by Queen Rania of Jordan included the managers of the world's leading news agencies and periodicals.

By 2005, Darbinyan was the first Armenian citizen that received that title. On that occasion, he has been invited to take part in the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, in January 2006.

"I intend to take advantage of my participation in the forum for implementing projects of technological breakthrough in Armenia and presenting my people's great culture and mission of enlightenment to the world's political leaders, businessmen and workers of culture," said Darbinyan.
