Levon Mkrtchyan was born on March 18, 1965 in Yerevan.
Mr. Mkrtchyan graduated from the Yerevan State University in 1986. He is a historian, pedagogue and PhD of Historical Sciences.
From 1989-1994 he worked as a research assistant in the Department of Armenian History at Yerevan State University. Since 1989 he has been a professor and docent in the Yerevan State University Department of Armenian History. From 1998-1999 he was the RA Minister of Education and Science. From 1999-2000 he was advisor to the Prime Minister. From 2000-2001 he was the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and 2001-2003 he served again as the RA Minister of Education and Science.
On May 25, 2003 he was elected to the NA from the proportional list of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation and he is currently on the NA Standing Committee on State and Legal Affairs. He is also the Head of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation Faction and member of the party.
Mr. Mkrtchyan is married and has one child.
